History Of AMC
Assam Medical College is located in the North East region of India (Barbari, Dibrugarh district Assam). A British man named Sir John Berry White who was a philanthropic founded the Berry White Medical School with his entire savings of around fifty thousand rupees. At that time Berry White Medical School was offered LMP Diploma Degree in Allopathic Medicine.
Later, based on the importance and necessity of this medical school, the Assam Government converted the Berry White Medical School into the Assam Medical College, which was inaugurated by Late Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi who was the first Chief Minister of Assam, . Previously the total number of seats in Assam Medical College was 65, later MBBS seats were increased to 200 out of which 170 are recognised seats and the remaining 30 are permitted seats.

Assam Medical College Academic History
AMC’s emergence as a medical college is a great significance. About 7536 mbbs graduates have passed from the Assam Medical College, out of which more than 2758 specialist doctors have been produced so far. When the AMC’s admissions started in the first phase, the number of seats in this college was 65. But due to the high reputation as a medical college, there are currently around 200 seats. Out of which 170 seats are recognized seats and remaining 30 are permitted seats.
Assam Medical College offers undergraduate courses, post graduate courses and super specialty courses. Post graduate course was introduced in the college in 1960 but classes started from 1962.
